But at Stretch Affect, we use the portable VO2 Master. Unlike traditional metabolic carts, the VO₂ Master is fully portable, battery powered, and doesn’t require hoses, tethers, or carts.
This allows us the flexibility to test any type of exercise you prefer: treadmill, bike, rower, stepper, even outside.
The only components of the VO2 Master are a heart rate monitor, mask, and head strap all adding up to about .5 pounds. The data is tracked and stored in an app on a phone, tablet, or watch.

The VO2 Master has been shown to be incredibly accurate compared to a traditional cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) test in a lab setting.
A 2024 presentation, VO2 Assessment- Comparison of Mobile Modified Technique with Standard CPET, at the American Society of Anesthesiologists “demonstrated correlation between the mobile VO2 assessment and the gold standard CPET VO2. And this device could….provide an alternative tool to CPET in the estimation of maximum VO2.”
The study showed that results from the mobile VO₂ testing device matched closely with the results from a gold-standard CPET.
